Journey man

Från Capella

I was invited by Kiiko Saito, who I spent time with at the Swedish craft school Capellagården in 2010, and we decided to hold an exhibition with some people living in Hokkaido who are involved with Capellagården. A craft exhibition will be held at Kiiko's Obihiro atelier (Aikoku Popopo Art Studio) from September 14th to September 18th.

Sharpening Barrel

For the first time in a while, I visited Inoue Knife Shop, a cutlery shop in downtown Tokyo. I greeted the owner, Mr. Inoue, and told him that from now on, I would like to not only design but also craft products. He suggested I try making a sharpening barrel and gave me a drawing.

Todomatsu (Sakhalin fir) furniture 2

Another piece of furniture that uses Sakhalin fir is a garden table assembled with screws and stainless steel bolts. This furniture is a collaboration with “Kolonihave” who makes garden furniture in Higashikawa.

Todomatsu (Sakhalin fir) furniture 1

I think that the most abundant tree in Hokkaido is probably the Todomatsu (Sakhalin fir) tree. I wondered if I could make furniture using this Sakhalin fir tree, so I made two prototypes of furniture. One is a bed frame that is assembled using a joint called “Aigaki”.
