研ぎ桶

数年ぶりに東京の下町にある刃物屋さん「井上刃物店」を訪ねた。店主の井上さんにご挨拶をして、これからはデザインのみならず品物をつくることもやっていきたいと伝えると、それなら研ぎ桶をつくってみたらとすすめられ、図面を渡された。材料はヒバかヒノキでつくるようにと言われた。

北海道にもどって、早速製作をはじめて、下手なりになんとか形にはなった。水を入れると漏れることなく使えそうだ。（水が漏れるようであればシールすればよいと井上さんから教えてもらっていたので、漏れても構わなかったのではあるが…）その研ぎ桶を使って、手元にあるすべての刃物を研いでみた。

今まで通りデザインとクラフトを行き来しながらも、これからはより「つくること（クラフト）」に軸足を移しながら、北海道の小さな工房で家具や木の小物をつくって行こうと、気持ちを新たにするための製作であった。

Sharpening Barrel

For the first time in a while, I visited Inoue Knife Shop, a woodworking tool shop in downtown Tokyo. I greeted the owner, Mr. Inoue, and told him that from now on, I would like to not only design but also craft products. He suggested I try making a sharpening barrel and gave me a drawing. I was told to make the material from hiba or cypress.

When I returned to Hokkaido, I immediately started making it, and somehow it took shape. It seems that it can be used without leaking when water is added. I used that sharpening barrel to sharpen all the knives I had on hand.

It was a production to refresh my feelings to continue making furniture and wooden accessories in a small workshop in Hokkaido while going back and forth between design and craft.
